Automation Hixson's Automation group provides strategic expertise in the development of automation and control strategies and solutions. With an average of more than 20 years of experience each, the group integrates systems using the latest technologies, software, and equipment. Civil Engineering Helping clients define what they want now and think about what they will need in the future is standard operating procedure for Hixson's Civil Engineering department. With an average of over 25 years of experience each, Hixson's civil engineers play an integral part in defining critical design parameters such as site grading, site drainage and stormwater management, site access, traffic flow, and site utility analysis. They are also responsible for working with soils engineers to utilize on-site and imported materials that create a stable sub-base for pavement and building foundations. Working closely with Hixson's other disciplines, Hixson's civil engineers deliver creative, cost-effective solutions for the infrastructure needs of our clients. Construction Administration As construction specialists, the Hixson Construction Administration group acts as the client's watchdog throughout the bidding and construction phases of a project. Comprised of members with architecture, engineering and construction backgrounds, the group provides strong unbiased technical knowledge and a thorough understanding of how to work with contractors and suppliers to help clients make sound decisions and achieve their end-goals. Cost Estimating The Hixson Cost Estimating team is responsible for identifying and tracking project costs. With certified cost estimators/registered professional engineers on staff, the group also uses industry resources and a national network of contacts to ensure the accuracy and validity of labor and materials costs for project budgets. Electrical Engineering Combining technical capabilities with an understanding of materials and methods and strategic use of industry-leading tools are hallmarks of the Hixson Electrical Engineering group, whose members have more than 80 years of experience collectively. From general illumination to power distribution and controls, the group collaborates with other Hixson disciplines to design solutions that will maximize return on investment for clients. Environmental Engineering The Hixson Environmental department creates solutions for wastewater, air pollution, pollution prevention, waste management, toxic/hazardous chemicals, and workplace health and safety issues. The team, whose members average more than 13 years of experience each, respond in a proactive, innovative and cost-effective manner. Manufacturing Engineering The Hixson Manufacturing group includes a senior-level staff that averages over 25 years each in manufacturing, packaging, and material handling for both large and small food and consumer products companies. This group plays a critical function in the conceptual phase of each project, providing line layouts and designs; in the design and implementation phase, including the specification, evaluation, selection and procurement of manufacturing equipment; and also in the field, to assure systems work and the client receives full value. Mechanical Engineering Hixson's Mechanical Engineering discipline is responsible for designing heating, venting and air conditioning, plumbing and fire protection systems. Members of the group, who have more than 100 years of experience collectively, also provide a number of specialty services, including energy analyses, lifecycle cost analyses and facility assessments. Process Engineering Hixson's Process Engineering department provides a wide range of services in the fields of food science, food processing, food plant conceptual planning and food process design. The group, whose members have 60 years of experience collectively, combines traditional engineering services and equipment specification with advisory, consultation and systems analysis and optimization to create comprehensive, forward-thinking food processing solutions for clients. Project Management Throughout the entire project lifecycle, Hixson projects are led by an associate from the Project Management group. These team members, who have an average of 20 years of experience, oversee the day-to-day details on which project success hinges and work closely with all other Hixson disciplines to ensure the client's needs are met. Refrigeration Specialists in the creation of ammonia-based systems, the Hixson Refrigeration group designs new and modified complex refrigeration systems ranging from 500 to 7,000 tons. Members of the group, who have nearly 40 years of experience, employ their extensive knowledge to thoroughly analyze clients' needs and deliver systems that will address those needs both today and tomorrow. Structural Engineering Formed in 1948 by structural engineer Lewis Hixson, the Structural department is still a foundation in the firm. Members of this group, who have more than 65 years of design experience collectively in this field, produce facilities of all building types and soil conditions with creativity, efficiency and cost-effectiveness. Systems Engineering When a project requires the assistance of engineering disciplines such as process, mechanical, ammonia refrigeration, electrical/instrumentation/automation controls, and manufacturing, the Hixson Systems Engineering group becomes involved. Led by an engineer with more than 40 years of experience, the group provides leadership, oversight and value-added consulting to ensure that projects are fully integrated and that all solutions have been explored. Administrative Departments: Accounting Within Hixson, the Accounting department contributes to the company's success by providing knowledge, expertise, and careful judgment for every transaction. Members of the group who have more than 60 years of experience collectively, perform both traditional accounting and finance functions such as accounts payable and receivable as well as provide mission-critical support for project accounting and budgeting tasks. Client Development To identify and grow business opportunities, Hixson relies on the Client Development group. Team members, who bring backgrounds in sales, engineering and web development to their positions, ensure that Hixson's value is appropriately communicated. Continuous Improvement A focus on quality is ingrained throughout Hixson thanks to the efforts of the Continuous Improvement department. The group works with Hixson associates to actively educate, promote, and pursue quality and process improvements that enable the firm to deliver successful projects and great project experiences for clients. Human Resources From staffing through benefits, Hixson's Human Resources professionals manage all the employee needs of the firm. Hixson associates working in this area, who average more than 20 years of experience each, perform the tasks necessary to seek and hire the best people for Hixson and provide them with the necessary information and services to assist with their benefits once they are hired. Information Systems From integrating new technology to problem-solving, Hixson's Information Systems department keeps the firm running smoothly and efficiently. The group, whose members have an average of 12 years experience each, serves as the central point of contact for all issues relating to Hixson's networks, servers, workstations, software applications, and audio/visual equipment. Production Planning Hixson's Production Planning group plays a strategic role in every Hixson project. Working in tandem with all Hixson disciplines and with project managers, the team closely and constantly oversees the progress of all Hixson projects to ensure that corporate resources are allocated appropriately and used effectively so that budgets and schedules remain on track.
