Hixson donated time and resources to Easter Seals WRC on their Building
Value facility in Cincinnati. Building Value is a building materials
re-use enterprise that provides job training opportunities in retail
and construction for people with disabilities and disadvantages.
Hixson renovated the exterior and interior of the facility located
on Gilbert Avenue. |

Jim Adler, Hixson's Manager of Refrigeration Engineering, was recently elected to the Board of Directors at IIAR, an industry organization which provides information, education, standards and more for the global ammonia refrigeration industry. Adler’s election was held at the 2009 IIAR Industrial Refrigeration Conference & Exhibition, which took place in Dallas, Texas. He will serve a three-year term. Other Hixson associates are involved with committee-level roles in this organization.

Hixson has partnered with St. Francis deSales School in Walnut Hills for its Partner in Education program.
This year, Hixson and St. Francis deSales 7th graders participated in the 2010 “Architecture by Children” program, sponsored by the Cincinnati chapter of the American Institute of Architects and the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati. Click here to learn more and see photos of this event. |

A "free store" for teachers, Crayons to Computers has offered supplies for needy students in the 13-county area surrounding Greater Cincinnati since 1997. Hixson played a significant role in the formation of this program that has served over 75,000 kids in over 250 schools and collected and distributed more than $25 million dollars in supplies. Hixson designed the Dynamic "Store" and continues to contribute time and money each year to benefit the program. |

In recognition of the critical, yet often un-recognized role of
teachers, Hixson has presented a $5,000 annual award to an outstanding
educator of one of the Hixson family's children each year since
1990. In 2009, the award was given to Beverly Davis, a Cosmetology instructor at Live Oaks campus of the Grat Oaks Institute of Technology and Career Development. |

The 12th Annual CANstruction event, sponsored by the AIA wase held in the Weston Art Gallery at the Aronoff Center. Hixson's 2009 theme was "Key to Unlock Hunger." The Hixson team
used nearly 2,000 cans to create the project
which took the shape of an actual key in a padlock conveying the hope of some day unlocking the key to solving the hunger problem in the world. The Hixson team was awarded an honorable mention in this year's competition. After the event, nearly 60,000 cans of
non-perishable items will be donated by the 13 participating firms to the Cincinnati Freestore
Foodbank to feed the less fortunate familys in our community. A special thanks to all those who participated this year!

through spring and fall volunteer drives. |

Nearly 15 Hixson representatives raised $2,000 for 2004 Walk for
the Cure on behalf of the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation.

Hixson has been a member of AACE for over 15 years. Members attend local and annual meetings and have provided cost-related presentations on numerous occasions. In addition, Hixson associate Duane Meyer, a nearly 30 year member and past president, is currently serving as secretary of the local Southwestern Ohio Section. |

Having served the meat and poultry industries for many years, Hixson joined AMI in 2001. Chris Harmon, P.E., served on AMI's Facility Design Task Force, a steering committee establishing the facility standards that affect product quality and safety and employee welfare. |

Hixson has been a member of BEMA for over 10 years. Hixson's Mike Steur,
P.E., was formerly on its Board of Directors and is currently serving two committee-level assignments. |

Hixson has been a long time member of this association, serving in a variety of capacities from technical committee to supporting industry initiatives. |

Hixson’s Colleen McCafferty currently serves as President of IFMA's Corporate Headquarters Council, whose mission is to create networking, educational, and information sharing forums targeted at facility professionals responsible for corporate headquarters facility assets. In addition, Hixson has also supported the Council by hosting past conferences. |
