Four Key Findings from 2018 Food and Beverage Environmental Conference

Earlier this year, Steve Schulte, Manager of the Environmental, Health & Safety department at Hixson, attended the 2018 Food and Beverage Environmental Conference. Here four key things you should know based on the sessions Steve attended:

  1. The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency offers a wealth of environmental data online without requiring a Freedom of Information Act request. Check out information such as the National Air Toxics Assessment mapping application, Envirofacts, and Environmental Compliance and History Online.
  2. A centralized EH&S training delivery model (versus department by department/as needed) results in training consistency and focus across groups for facilities and personnel.
  3. Air compressors are typically misused, energy inefficient and costly to run and maintain. In general, if you have an issue, adding more compressors is not the answer. Instead, consider renovating the entire system.
  4. Wastewater operators like to fiddle with settings, yet out of spec settings can result in operational issues.
