Electrical Devices in Hazardous Locations
Manufacturers working with flammable or combustible liquids, gases or dusts are required to install electrical systems that address the hazards posed by these materials. When ignitable concentrations of gas or dust are present, electrical devices capable of igniting those materials must either be eliminated, or separated from the gas/dust. The July issue of From Experience looks at the various approaches to address the issue, and why each situation should be evaluated on a case-by-case basis to determine the best solution.
