Staying Strong: Hiring During a Pandemic
Like so many other companies in the U.S. and around the world, in mid-March of last year, Hixson transitioned to the scenario in which all of our associates worked from home. Fortunately, our leadership had planned for such an occurrence, and the tools and resources were in place or made available that enabled our associates to be productive from their home offices. Hixson associates were also flexible, and quickly adapted to the new ways of working and collaborating. (MS Teams anyone?)
Just as importantly, no one was laid off from Hixson: In fact, 13 full-time associates were hired in 2020, the majority having been interviewed and on-boarded remotely, and a few more joining us in the first few weeks of this new year. We even maintained our co-operative education program during all three semesters! This was a first for Hixson who, during normal times, is accustomed to working collaboratively within our team-oriented work environment. Martha Montgomery, Staffing Manager, attributes this to Hixson’s culture. “The success of flipping our hiring processes on its head, during a pandemic no less, is a testament to the trust and confidence that we have in each other,” said Martha. “Instead of resigning to what we wouldn’t be able to do, we bridged the virtual gap and welcomed an impressive slate of new hires who are already contributing in meaningful ways.”
We are thankful, both to our clients, for continuing to select Hixson for your project needs, and to all of our associates for all of their hard work during 2020. We look forward to what’s to come in 2021!
