Three Questions With…Mike Meyer

This month, Mike Meyer celebrates his 23rd year here with us at Hixson!  We asked Mike, a member of our Construction Administration department, to answer these three questions:

1.  Why have you chosen to stay at Hixson for so long?

I have had two careers in my adult life. I spent 21 years in the U.S. Navy as a Seabee and followed that with 23 years at Hixson. I have chosen to stay at Hixson mostly because of the diverse range of interesting and challenging projects that I’ve been assigned to over the years. None of those projects have been routine. Hixson also hires the most talented people I’ve ever worked with and I’ve made lifelong friends here. As an added bonus: I also met my wife at Hixson!

 2.  What is your favorite part of your day-to-day work?

I’ve been in the construction industry since my junior year in high school where I was enrolled in a carpentry program at a vocational school. My favorite part of day-to-day work is being on a construction site.

3.  Favorite travel spot?

I have favorite places that I have lived (Guantanamo Bay, Cuba; Sigonella, Sicily; Exmouth, Western Australia) but I prefer to travel to new places for a different adventure rather than going to the same place time after time.
