Three Questions with…Carol Uth
This month, Carol Uth celebrates 24 years here with us at Hixson! We asked Carol, a Coordinator in our Project Management department, to answer three questions:
1. What’s one thing that surprised you about working at Hixson?
I think the thing that surprised me the most (and took the most time to get used to!) was the approachability of everyone in the “hierarchy.” In most companies, it would be highly unusual for the president of the company to know everyone’s name, let alone know any personal information about them. In a lot of companies, it would be unusual for even your direct report to know too much about you personally. And it would certainly not be expected for the higher ups to “stoop” to helping with daily tasks. A good example: One of my duties is to move tables and chairs around to set up for meetings. One day as I was setting up for a meeting, Wick happened by. He popped in to see what was happening, saw it was me, and stopped to help me move the tables into position. And, yes, I truly believe Greg would do the same thing!
2. What is your proudest moment at Hixson?
On one of the projects I was working on during my early years, one of our Project Managers received a voicemail from the General Contractor complimenting the entire team in general for the work, but also specifically mentioned my work as being exemplary and helpful. Not only did the Project Manager share it with our president, but he in turn then shared it with the company during a Towne Meeting. I was surprised and proud not only of the mention but also of the company that would go out of its way to share such praise with the rest of the associates when it wouldn’t need to. Sharing it with me would have been my highest expectation – up until then!
3. Best vacation you’ve been to and why?
I had the opportunity to go to the Daytona 500 and Disney World in the same week in 2011. Nothing is like the Daytona 500 – a big party followed by a great race; and your first time is very memorable in that regard. To combine that with a week at Disney, and you have one heck of a good week! The weather was great, I had a very relaxing time, and I even made somebody’s day while I was at Disney. It doesn’t get any better!
