Three Key Messages from the IDFA Dairy Forum 2022
Recently, Hixson Director of Client Development Nathan Arnold, P.E., attended Dairy Forum 2022, sponsored by the International Dairy Foods Association (IDFA). Nathan said the following messages from presenters at the Forum resonated with him and also confirmed what he is seeing in the industry:
- IDFA President & CEO Michael Dykes, DVM, said he believes that the United States dairy providers are leading the world on factors such as sustainability, health and wellness, technology and innovation, attracting and retaining the best workforce, and growing our markets globally.
- In his session, “Leading Beyond the Walls of the Workplace – What They Don’t Teach You in Business School,” Jim Donald, Chairman of Albertson’s & Former CEO of Starbucks, Pathmark Supermarkets and Extended Stay Hotels, delivered a great talk on building a “culture of caring.” According to Jim, successful companies create emotional connections with their employees to keep them engaged. However, building this “culture of caring” requires the use of strategy and tools to successfully incorporate it into the business.
- In her IDFA Deep Dive session, “Great Attrition’ or ‘Great Attraction’? The Choice is Yours,” McKinsey’s Bonnie Dowling discussed what to do when there is “a fundamental mismatch in what employees and employers think is important.” (Tip: If your business is having attraction and retention issues, make sure you check out Hixson’s recent webinar with the IDFA, “Facility Design for Employee Health: The Right Steps for a Healthy Workforce.” In this webinar, our presenters detailed how facility design can help dairy processors and other employers improve the health and wellbeing of their employees.)
