Hixson Partners Again with Design LAB (Learn + Build)
This week, Hixson participated in the kickoff of the 2022-2023 Design Lab program! This free educational opportunity helps expand the knowledge of the built environment for students in grades K-8 within the Cincinnati region. The program is managed by Design LAB Learn + Build, formerly known as the Architectural Foundation of Cincinnati. This now 40-year-old organization recently adopted the name of its most well-known program to better communicate all that the organization does.
The Design Lab features learning modules about the design process, structures, sustainability, and spatial awareness. This year’s program, “Gathering Spaces,” will help give children a valuable opportunity to think critically about the world around them and the built environment they inhabit every day. Students will be challenged to research, design and build models of learning spaces. Eventually, they will create a 24″x 24″ three-dimensional model and tri-fold panels on which to describe and document their creative process including concept images, sketches/drawings, vocabulary, budgeting, written data, planning, etc. At the end, submitted projects are displayed during Design Lab Exhibit Week, with students available to present their ideas, methodology, and solutions.
