Kicking Off the 2024 Partners in Education Programs
It’s that time of year when we once again kick off our work with our Partner in Education school, St. Francis de Sales! Hixson associates volunteer in multiple programs with this Pre-K through grade 8 school including:
- Halloween Reading. In this program, Hixson associates dress up in Halloween costumes and read to grades Pre-K, Kindergarten, First and Second. Upon completion of the stories, students are given treat bags and two books for their classroom.
- Pen Pals. In this program, second graders are paired with Hixson associates who take turns writing letters to each other throughout the year the school year, ending in a pizza party meet and greet.
- Traveling Bears. Teddy bears are more than just a cute toy in this program, which provides each first-grade student with a special bear that they name at the beginning of the school year. The bears then “go” on journeys both near and far and write back (with help from Hixson associates) on postcards to their students throughout the school year from the places they visit. At the end of the year, bears are reunited with their owners and students are given a special commemorative booklet to help them remember their bear’s journey.
