POULTRY PROCESSING PLANT
Ontario, Canada

Leading consumer protein company Maple Leaf Foods selected Hixson to design and engineer a new, 640,000 SF, $720 million value-added fresh poultry facility in London, Ontario. Up to 100 million fresh chickens can be processed per year at the plant, which is one the most advanced poultry-processing facilities in the world. Some of the key features designed into the plant include state-of-the art processes and technologies for live receiving, automated case delivery and takeaway systems, and offal takeaway vacuum systems. Also included were environmentally friendly components such as energy-efficient building features and equipment, 150 ft. air stacks for odor control, noise abatement, and wetlands protection.

Michael H. McCain, President and CEO of Maple Leaf Foods, stated that this world-class facility, “the largest single-site investment ever made in the Canadian food sector,” enables Maple Leaf “to meet the steadily growing consumer demand for premium, value-added poultry products.”
