Lexmark International
R&D Center
Lexington, KY
Over the years, Hixson has designed several Greenfield and renovation projects for Lexmark International’s worldwide headquarters campus. For this project, Hixson was tasked with the creation of a new, four-story, 180,000 sq. ft. R&D facility: the largest facilities project embarked on by the company in more than 30 years. Because the space would house more than 400 employees representing two distinct groups, the R&D technological team and corporate attorneys, Hixson created an environment that represented the specific needs of these groups while staying true to the corporate brand throughout. The facility, which includes a mix of open and private offices, high-tech lab space, multiple training and meeting rooms, a main conference center, and a covered walkway as part of the overall campus master plan, has helped Lexmark improve performance and productivity, promote collaboration and innovation, and is a key factor behind the company’s ability to attract and retain employees in the highly competitive technology industry.
