Glendale and Santa Monica, California
Hixson has partnered with Macy’s Inc. on multiple retail concepts, including two award-winning redevelopment projects: Bloomingdale’s at Glendale Galleria and Santa Monica Place.
Macy’s Inc. selected Hixson to design a new Bloomingdale’s to anchor a comprehensive redevelopment of the Glendale Galleria. The 115,000-square-foot location includes 48 designer shops on two floors. Pairing Hollywood glamour with modern materials, the open floor plan features Bloomingdale’s iconic black and white tiling while incorporating a variety of metals, woods, custom and natural lighting and unique suspended accent systems. The exterior reinforces the interior’s black and white tiles, many of which are illuminated LED light boxes to create a dramatic nighttime effect. Bloomingdale’s at Glenwood Galleria is a Gold Winner of the U.S. Design and Development Award presented by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and is an Honoree of the ICSC “VIVA ‘Best of the Best’ Award.”
Macy’s Inc. also turned to Hixson when it needed to dramatically transform a former Macy’s store into a new Bloomingdale’s to anchor Santa Monica Place, a new upscale lifestyle center. The 115,000-square-foot store includes a dramatic three-story glass curtain wall corner entry; sustainable lighting, landscaping and materials; and a “sequin” layer of thousands of floating stainless steel discs that shimmer in the breeze. Bloomingdale’s at Santa Monica Place is a Gold Winner of the U.S. Design and Development Award presented by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) and Winner of the ICSC “VIVA ‘Best of the Best’ Award.”
