Plays a pivotal role throughout the project lifecycle, leading the way on the design of building systems, including code review and compliance, floor plan layouts, and coordination with engineering disciplines.


Provides strategic expertise in the development of automation and control strategies and solutions for processing, packaging, and utility systems. Includes front-end engineering documents, electrical design, development of system controls for associated systems, and checkout/startup activities.

Civil Engineering

Responsible for site development, including site layout, grading and stormwater drainage, site paving, site utilities and other site amenities.

Construction Administration

Serves as the client’s liaison throughout the bidding and construction phases of a project and monitors projects to ensure they are constructed to the plans, specifications and owner’s standards.

Cost Estimating

A dedicated team of professional cost estimators and trained construction managers, architects, and engineers who make use of Hixson’s historical cost data, industry cost references, estimating experience judgement, and a national network of contacts to provide accurate construction cost estimates that clients rely on to facilitate project design and appropriate capital funding.

Electrical Engineering

Combining technical capabilities with an understanding of materials and methods, the Electrical Engineering group specializes in the design of lighting, low and medium voltage power distribution, and control systems.

Environmental, Health and Safety Engineering

Helps clients achieve their goals of operating a safe, environmentally sound, and economically sustainable facility with solutions for wastewater, air pollution, pollution prevention, waste management, and toxic/hazardous chemical management. In addition, consults with clients on a wide range of compliance issues, including hazard communication, emergency response planning, personal protective equipment, lock out/tag out, and more.

Interior Design

Applies their extensive knowledge in employee productivity, branding, sustainability, and more to thoroughly analyze clients’ needs and deliver interior space designs that will address those needs both today and tomorrow.

Manufacturing Engineering

Serves as an extension of our clients’ staff through every phase of a project.  With industry leading SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) in food, beverage and GMP industries, delivers innovative solutions for our clients’ most complex manufacturing needs, including 3D plant layouts, packaging and processing solutions, integrate material handling systems, evaluation and selection of equipment, and identify integration partners.

Mechanical Engineering

Designs heating, venting and air conditioning solutions, central plant and distribution systems for steam boiler and chilled water systems, and provides specialty services including energy analyses, lifecycle cost analyses and facility assessments.

Process Engineering

Provides a wide range of services in the fields of food processing, food science, food plant conceptual planning, and food process design.  Combines traditional engineering services and equipment specification with advisory, consultation and systems analysis and optimization to create comprehensive, forward-thinking food processing solutions for clients.

Plumbing Engineering

Designs plumbing applications such as cold water, domestic hot water, tepid water, sanitary drain waste and vent, storm drainage, process drainage waste and vent, grey water, natural gas, specialty lab gas systems, compressed air, high pressure compressed air, hot rinse water, treated water and softened water systems.

Fire Protection Engineering

Responsible for the design of wet, dry-pipe, and special application fire protection systems.

Project Management

Responsible for the overall successful project delivery and client satisfaction, including planning and monitoring of project, as well as Hixson scope, budgets, schedule and quality levels.

Refrigeration Engineering

Responsible for the planning, design, review of installation and start-up assistance of complex industrial refrigeration systems for the food and beverage industry, and also provides consulting services including Process Safety Management program development, audits, inspections and documentation.

Structural Engineering

Responsible for building structural systems for all types of facilities and existing soil conditions, including foundations, floor slabs, building framing, and miscellaneous supports and platforms.
